Baghdad, Feb 15, (VOI) – Main security developments in Iraq on Thursday:
Kirkuk- Three elements from the Iraqi foreign minister's protection force were killed and three others were wounded when their motorcade was attacked on the highway near Kirkuk, a police source said on Thursday.
Falluja- Clashes broke out on Thursday between Iraqi army soldiers and gunmen in the restive Anbar city of Falluja , a police source said.
Baghdad- At least five people were killed and 20 others were wounded when two car bombs simultaneously exploded on Thursday afternoon in southern Baghdad, a police source said.
Basra- The spokeswoman for the British forces in southern Iraq said on Thursday a large-scale security operation was launched in the southern Iraqi city of Basra to "curb" the armed groups active in the city.
Kirkuk- Iraqi security forces foiled an attempt by scores of gunmen to control Hawijah district in west of Kirkuk after they attacked the Sunni district police station, a security source said on Thursday.
Kut- Unknown gunmen shot and killed on Thursday a major tribal chief on the highway near Kut, a police source said.
Baghdad- A booby-trapped car exploded on Thursday killing seven civilians and injuring 17 others in the Shiite Sadr City in eastern Baghdad, a police source said.
Tikrit- Five children were killed on Thursday when a mortar shell hit a house near to Tikrit University, a police source said.
Baghdad- The US army said on Thursday Five service men were killed and two others were wounded while conducting combat operations in Diala and Anbar provinces.
Basra- Spokeswoman for the British forces said on Thursday that two British soldiers were wounded while a gunman was killed and another was wounded in two separate attacks in the southern Iraqi city of Basra.
