Round-Up of Major Violent Incidents Across Iraq

Baghdad, March 6, (VOI) – Main security developments in Iraq on Tuesday:

Basra- Two gunmen and two civilians were wounded in two shelling attacks on a British base in central Basra, a military spokeswoman said on Tuesday.

Baghdad- Nine U.S. soldiers were killed and four others wounded in two separate operations on Monday in the provinces of Diala and Salah al-Din, the U.S. army said in two statements.

Baghdad- Five visitors of holy Shiite shrines in Karbala were killed and 10 others wounded in a car bomb in the area of al-Qadissiya in western Baghdad, Iraqi police sources said on Tuesday.

Baghdad- Four Iraqi army soldiers were killed and one civilian was wounded when an explosive charge went off near a checkpoint, Iraqi police sources said on Tuesday.

Mosul- A police patrol found two unidentified bodies on Tuesday in the area of Wadi Akkab, in the predominantly Sunni city of Mosul, the Ninawa police command's operation room director said.

Kirkuk- Five people were wounded when three mortar shells hit a police station and the house of a police official in Kirkuk, an Iraqi police source in Kirkuk said on Tuesday.

Kut- The commander of Wassit police’s 2nd regiment was killed and three of his security force were wounded on Tuesday when an explosive charge went off targeting his motorcade near Kut city, 180 km southeast of Baghdad, a security source said.

Hilla- At least 90 Shiite pilgrims were killed and 160 wounded on Tuesday when two suicide bombers detonated explosives amid crowds of Shiite pilgrims traveling to commemorate a Shiite event in Hilla, 100 km south of Baghdad, a police source said.

Mosul- A total of 140 prisoners escaped Badoush prison on Tuesday afternoon after an attack by unidentified gunmen, a police source in the predominantly Sunni Ninawa province, 402 km northwest of Baghdad, said.

Mosul- At least five people were killed and eighteen others were wounded when a suicide attacker detonated an explosives-rigged car in the city of Mosul, a police source in the predominantly Sunni Ninawa province, 402 km northwest of Baghdad, said.
