Round-Up of Major Violent Incidents Across Iraq

Baghdad, March 12, (VOI) – Main security developments in Iraq on Monday:

Hilla- Iraqi security forces clashed at noon on Monday with gunmen in north of Hilla, 100 km south of Baghdad, with no reports were available on casualties, a security source said.

Basra- Iraqi police forces freed on Monday a kidnapped woman and arrested her captors in the southern Iraqi city of Basra, a police source said.

Falluja- An Iraqi army base was attacked on Monday with mortar rounds in the east of Falluja, 45 km west of Baghdad, a security source said.

Basra- Three military vehicles were damaged when British bases in the southern Iraqi city of Basra came under attack, the spokeswoman for the British forces in southern Iraq said on Monday.

Mosul- A prominent member of the dissolved Baath Party was killed by unidentified gunmen in the city of Mosul, 402 km north of Baghdad, an official source in the Ninawa police operations room said on Monday.

Baghdad- Five U.S. soldiers were killed and three others wounded in separate incidents and military operations in Baghdad and the provinces of Salah al-Din and al-Anbar, the U.S. army said on Monday.

Baghdad- Three employees from the Iraqi labor and social affairs ministry were kidnapped in the western Baghdad area of al-Mansour on Monday, a ministry source said.

Mosul- Iraqi security forces arrested the deputy leader of al-Qaeda organisation in Iraq in the city of Mosul, 402 km north of Baghdad, the official al-Iraqiya TV said on Monday.

Hilla- A mortar attack by unidentified gunmen on a football playground left one child dead and four others wounded, a source from the Babel police said on Monday.

Tikrit- A combined force of Iraqi and U.S. personnel arrested on Monday the Director of Communications in Dalouiya district, 90 km north of Baghdad, while a truck driver was found missing north of Tikrit, a security source said.

Mosul- Unidentified gunmen on Monday killed the director of the state-owned water supply company in Badoush, northwest Ninawa province, while a guard for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) in Mosul, 402km north of Baghdad, was severely wounded during a mortar attack, a police source in Ninawa province said.

Baghdad- A senior figure in al-Qaeda in Iraq armed group was arrested on Monday northeast of Baghdad, the official spokesman of the law-imposing security plan said.

Diala- Five Iraqi policemen were wounded on Monday when their vehicle came under armed attack in central Baaquba, 57 km northeast of Baghdad, while two civilians were killed by an armed group north of the city, a police source said.

Kirkuk- Four Iraqi policemen were killed on Monday when an explosive charge detonated near their vehicle in the northern Iraqi city of kirkuk, a police source said.
