Baghdad, Apr 18, (VOI) – Main security developments in Iraq on Wednesday:

Diala- Iraqi and U.S. forces killed 23 gunmen during a large-scale security crackdown in Diala province, 57 km northeast of Baghdad, a security source said on Wednesday.

Mosul- A senior Iraqi army officer was killed and three soldiers were wounded on Wednesday as an explosive charge went off near their vehicle in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, a police source said.

Basra- Houses of three leading figures from the Shiite Fadhila party were attacked simultaneously with explosive charge explosions in the southern Iraqi city of Basra, a source from the party said.

Diala- Iraqi troops detained on Wednesday persons suspected of kidnappings and killings in Hibhib district, Diala province, 57 km northeast of Baghdad, a police source said.

Haditha- Mortar rounds were fired onto a U.S. base in Haditha city, 380 km west of Baghdad, local residents said on Wednesday.

Baghdad- At least two policemen were killed and eight people, most of them were policemen, wounded on Wednesday when a suicide bomber detonated a car rigged with explosives near a police check point in al-Saydiyah, southern Baghdad, a police source said.

Falluja- A U.S. vehicle was destroyed when an explosive charge went off near a vehicle patrol in Falluja, 45 km west of Baghdad, a police source said.

Baghdad- Unknown gunmen shot and killed a personal attachment for Iraqi Speaker Dr. Mahmud al-Mashhadani in southwestern Baghdad, a source at Iraqi parliament said on Wednesday.

Mosul- Unknown gunmen killed two members of a family outside their house in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, while police patrols found seven unidentified bodies in the city, a police source said.

Kirkuk- A judge from Kirkuk Criminal Court on Wednesday survived unharmed an attempt on his life in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk, a police source said.

Kirkuk- Three kidnapped workers were found dead on Wednesday in Hawija district, southwest of Kirkuk, a police source said.

Baghdad- At least 118 people were killed and 157 wounded on Wednesday as a truck crammed with explosives in al-Sadriyah area in central Baghdad, a police source said.

Baghdad- At least two people were killed and five more were wounded on Wednesday when a bomb stashed in a bus, near al-Shurja wholesale market in central Baghdad, exploded, a security source said.

Diala- Iraqi troops, backed by U.S. forces on Wednesday, arrested a leading figure from the Sadr Movement in Diala, along with 11 fighters from Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr's Mahdi army, a police source said.

Baghdad- At least 30 people were killed and 45 others were wounded when a booby-trapped car went off in Sadr City in eastern Baghdad, Iraqi police sources said.

Mosul- At least seven people were wounded on Wednesday in a suicide bombing near the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, a security source said.

Baghdad- At least ten people were killed and 15 wounded on Wednesday when a car bomb detonated in a commercial area in central Baghdad, a police source said.

Mosul– An Iraqi soldier and a policeman were injured on Wednesday in a mortar attack by gunmen against some Iraqi police and army sites in central Talafar in northern Iraq, a police source said.

Baghdad– A U.S. marine was killed in a non-hostile incident while conducting combat operations in Anbar province, the U.S. army said on Wednesday.
