Baghdad, May 12, (VOI) – Five U.S. soldiers were killed and three others are considered missing after a U.S. force came under an attack in the area of al-Mahmoudiya in southern Baghdad, the U.S. army said on Saturday. "A patrol of eight – seven U.S. soldiers and one Iraqi interpreter – came under an attack 20 km west of Mahmoudiya during the early hours of Saturday," according to a U.S. army statement received by the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). The U.S. army did not say whether the Iraqi interpreter was among the casualties or missing. The most recent figures of U.S. casualties in Iraq since the March 2003 U.S.-led invasion has reached 3,386, as officially reported by the U.S. army. AE/TP
