BAGHDAD - Nine people were killed and 33 wounded in a car bomb explosion near the Nidawi market and a church in the Binouk district of northern Baghdad on Monday evening, police said.
BAGHDAD - An Iraqi policeman was killed by sniper fire in the Karrada district of central Baghdad on Monday afternoon, police said.
BAGHDAD - One person was killed and two others wounded in a mortar attack on the Hayy Saddam neighborhood in Bayya’ in southwestern Baghdad on Monday evening, police said.

BAGHDAD – The bodies of an Iraqi woman employed at the Spanish embassy in Baghdad and three of her family members were found on Sunday after they had been kidnapped on Friday, a source in the Spanish Foreign Ministry said.
BAGHDAD - Two U.S. soldiers were killed in separate attacks in Baghdad on Sunday, the U.S. military said. One soldier was killed by small arms fire in southern Baghdad, while the second soldier was killed by gunfire following a roadside bomb explosion in western Baghdad. The military statement said two Iraqi policemen were wounded in the attack.
BAGHDAD – The U.S. military said it killed three suspected militants following a roadside bomb explosion targeting their patrol near the Abu Hanifa mosque in the Adhamiya district of northern Baghdad. A civilian was killed in the explosion, the statement said.
BAGHDAD - The Iraqi army said it killed eight insurgents and detained 99 others over the past 24 hours in different parts of Iraq, the Defence Ministry said.
FALLUJAH – Three civilians were killed when a U.S. military patrol opened fire at their vehicle in the Ni’aimiya village south of Fallujah (45 km west of Baghdad) on Monday morning, Iraqi police said. The U.S. military did not comment on the incident.
MADAIN – The Iraqi army said it killed five suspected militants who were crossing the Tigris River in a boat near Mada’in, south east of Baghdad, on Monday morning.
KHANAQIN – A roadside bomb explosion killed two border guard officers and wounded three others on the main Khanaqin-Naft Khana road in western Diyala near the Iranian border, police said.
BAQUBA – A Diyala Governorate Council member escaped an assassination attempt in Ba’quba on Monday, police said.

KHALIS – A civilian was killed and 12 others wounded in mortar attacks against different parts of Khalis north east of Baghdad on Monday afternoon, a security source said.
KHALIS – A student was killed and eight others wounded when Iraqi soldiers opened random fire near a secondary school in Khalis on Monday, police said.
KHALIS – Militants blew up 16 abandoned houses in the Ambakiya village north of Khalis on Monday, police said.
BALADRUZ – Four people were wounded in four roadside bomb explosions in Baladruz east of Baghdad, police said.
ANBAR - Two U.S. soldiers and one Marine were killed on Sunday during combat operations in western Anbar governorate, the U.S. military said.
HAWIJA - Gunmen wounded three policemen when they attacked their police patrol in Hawija (70 km southwest of Kirkuk), police said.
HAWIJA – Two policemen were wounded in a roadside bomb explosion in front of the home of an Iraqi officer in Hawija, police said.
BADOSH - The Iraqi army said it killed 17 insurgents, including three suspected Al-Qaeda members and two Arab nationals, during overnight raids in Badosh near the northern city of Mosul (390 km north of Baghdad).

MOSUL - Gunmen killed a police colonel along with his driver in Mosul, police said.
MOSUL - A roadside bomb explosion targeting a police patrol killed a policeman and wounded four people, including two policemen in Mosul, police said. Police also defused four roadside bombs in different parts of Mosul.
MOSUL – Police said they killed a militant in the Zuhour district of Mosul on Monday.
MOSUL – U.S. jet fighters bombed the Yabsat area in new Mosul, residents said. No further information was available.
MOSUL – Police arrested Salim Al-Hajj Issa, chairman of the Ninewa Governorate Council, in Mosul on charges of administrative and financial corruption, police said.
DOHUK – The Turkish military fired 12 artillery rounds at the Nezdur village inside the Iraqi border near Dohuk on Monday evening without casualties, a Kurdish security official said. The source said most of the village’s residents had fled earlier when Turkish forces started operations near the northern Iraqi border directed at suspected PKK rebel positions inside northern Iraq.
KIRKUK – Gunmen in two vehicles killed the imam and preacher of the Saliheen mosque, Najdah Suleiman Mohammed, in the Wahid Adhar district of central Kirkuk (250 km north of Baghdad) on Sunday evening, police said.
KIRKUK – Police arrested three criminals accused of forging official documents and identity cards in central Kirkuk on Monday, a security source said.
MISHAHDA - Militants blew up a fuel station in the town of Mishahda, north of Baghdad, without casualties on Sunday, police said.
LATIFIYA – Police said they found the body of a Turkish reporter along with his camera and notes in an insurgent hideout near Latifiya south of Baghdad on Monday.
HILLA – The correspondents of Radio Sawa and Al-Sumeria TV said that members of the Babel Governorate Council protection force harassed them and threatened to open fire against them while they were covering a meeting at the governorate building in Hilla south of Baghdad on Monday. The two reporters said they attempted to file a complaint at a nearby police station but were detained on charges of assaulting a police officer and were told to drop the complaint in order to be released.
KARBALA – Karbala police commander said police intelligence foiled a plot by militants in Nukhaib and Husseiniya, west and east of Karbala, to attack the holy city with car bombs and explosive belts on Monday. The source said police arrested the ringleader and three of his aides.
NAJAF – Police found the body of a young man shot execution style near a police station in central Najaf, police said. Police also uncovered an 82-mm mortar round in an abandoned house.
DIWANIYA – Ten people were killed and 30 wounded in a pre-dawn U.S. air strike against the residential Jumhouri district in southeastern Diwaniya (180 km south of Baghdad) on Monday, a medical source said. Locals claimed that dozens of people were killed in the bombing and that nine homes were destroyed. An eyewitness said the air strike came one hour after an attack with about 40 Katyusha rockets against a U.S. base in southwest Diwaniya. The U.S. military did not comment on the incident.
DIWANIYA – One person was killed and two policemen wounded during an exchange of fire between police guarding the governorate building and dozens of demonstrators protesting a U.S. air strike on a residential district in central Diwaniya, police said.
MAJAR AL-KABIR – Police said they uncovered a cache of 1,312 land mines in a rural area near Majar Al-Kabir south of Amara on Monday.
SUQ AL-SHIYOUKH – Police defused a roadside bomb in the town of Suq Al-Shiyoukh south east of Nasiriya, police said.
BASRAH – Police found the body of Colonel Jassim Sigar Mizyad, a Facilities Protection Service officer, at Garma north of Basrah (590 km south of Baghdad). The officer had been kidnapped by unknown gunmen in central Basrah on Sunday. He was the third senior officer to be abducted and killed by suspected feuding Shi’ite militias this week.
BASRAH – Gunmen attacked and wounded an Iraqi special forces officer in the Asma’i district of western Basrah on Sunday night, police said.
BASRAH – The joint coordination center in the Hakimiya district of Basrah was attacked with small arms fire on Monday morning without casualties, a British military spokesman said. The source added that all three British military bases in the southern city had been attacked with indirect fire over the last 24 hours without casualties.
