BAGHDAD – Eyewitnesses said Mahdi Army militiamen attacked a U.S. military convoy in the Mashtal district of northeastern Baghdad with rocket propelled grenades and destroyed two vehicles. The sources said U.S. troops detained several Interior Ministry commandos in the area following the attack.
BAGHDAD – Eyewitnesses said clashes broke out in the Fadhl district of central Baghdad between suspected Sunni militants and Iraqi security forces on Wednesday morning. There was no news of casualties.
BAGHDAD - U.S. soldiers detained 12 suspected militants in the Adhamiya district of northern Baghdad on Monday, the U.S. military said.
BAGHDAD – The Baghdad Operations Command said Iraqi security forces detained 38 suspected insurgents in different parts of Baghdad over the last 24 hours and defused two roadside bombs and confiscated weapons and ammunitions. The statement said one Iraqi soldier was killed and two wounded during the operations.
BAIJI - A car bomb explosion targeting a police patrol near a local restaurant killed six people, including a policeman, and wounded 17 others in Baiji (180 km north of Baghdad) on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
TIKRIT - Gunmen killed an Iraqi soldier in a drive-by-shooting at Al-Alam near Tikrit (175 km north of Baghdad), police said.
SAMARRA - Four policemen were killed and two were wounded in a roadside bomb explosion in Samarra (100 km north of Baghdad), the police said.
KIRKUK - Gunmen killed two policemen and wounded three others in a drive-by-shooting near the Urouba district in the southern Kirkuk (250 north of Baghdad) on Wednesday morning, police said.
KIRKUK - A roadside bomb explosion targeting a traffic police patrol wounded two policemen in southern Kirkuk’s Qadisiya district on Wednesday, police said.
KIRKUK – Police found and deactivated a missile launcher hidden in a vegetable cart near a mosque in the Nasr district in Kirkuk, police said.
RIYADH – A roadside bomb explosion killed one Oil Facilities Protection guard and wounded three others near Riyadh (65 km south west of Kirkuk) on Wednesday, police said.
RIYADH – Three Iraqi soldiers were wounded in a roadside bomb explosion against their patrol in Riyadh, police said.
HAWIJA – An Iraqi soldier was wounded in a roadside bomb explosion on his patrol near a bus garage in Hawija (70 km south west of Kirkuk) on Wednesday, police said. Police defused two other roadside bombs in the town.
TUZ KHURMATU – Gunmen manning a fake checkpoint kidnapped six truck drivers on the main Baghdad-Kirkuk road near Tuz Khurmatu (225 km north of Baghdad) on Wednesday, police said.
SULEIMAN BEG - An Iraqi soldier was killed and three others were wounded in a roadside bomb explosion targeting their patrol in Suleiman Beg north of Baghdad on Wednesday, police said.
BAQUBA - The U.S. military said it killed 25 suspected insurgents and detained five others during an operation north east of Ba'quba (57 km north of Baghdad) on Monday.
MUQDADIYA – The Muqdadiya local council chairman was wounded with two of his family members when a mortar shell hit his home in Muqdadiya (45 km north east of Ba’quba) on Wednesday, police said.
MUQDADIYA – Locals said fierce fighting broke out between two insurgent groups at several villages around Muqdadiya, Deli Abbas and the Himrin Lake on Wednesday morning. Eyewitnesses said 1920 Revolution Brigades gunmen may have killed up to 15 Al-Qaeda gunmen and detained several others during the fighting. The report could not be independently confirmed by police or the U.S. military.
MUQDADIYA – Militants blew up the house of a local policeman in the Falastin district of Muqdadiya on Wednesday, police said.
MOSUL – Police found the bodies of two Yazidi food ration dealers from Ba’shiqa abducted yesterday near the Wahda district of eastern Mosul on Wednesday, police said. The two men were stoned to death and mutilated.
MOSUL - Iraqi and U.S. forces detained two suspected militants and confiscated explosives during raids in Mosul (390 km north of Baghdad) on Sunday, the U.S. military said.
MOSUL – The U.S. military said a helicopter crashed in Mosul on Wednesday, killing one soldier and wounding another.
FALLUJAH – Police found the bodies of two people bearing gunshot wounds and signs of torture north of Fallujah (45 km west of Baghdad) on Wednesday, police said. The two were members of the Anbar Salvation Council.
HADITHA – Eyewitnesses said a U.S. military base was hit with two Katyusha rockets on Wednesday afternoon in central Haditha (170 km west of Ramadi). There was no news of casualties.
HAQLANIYA – Gunmen wounded two policemen when they attacked a police patrol with hand grenades and small arms fire in the Sina’a district of Haqlaniya on Wednesday, police said.
HILLA - Two Iraqi soldiers and four civilians were wounded in a mortar attack on a military camp near Hilla (100 km south of Baghdad), police said.
KARBALA – Police found and deactivated a rocket launching pad with two modified missiles with a range of 30 km prepared to be fired at Karbala from the Wend area north of Karbala on Wednesday morning, the Karbala governor said.
KUT – The U.S. military base south of Kut was attacked with several mortar rounds on Wednesday afternoon with no news of casualties, police said.
BASRAH – Police found the body of an Iraqi interpreter working for the British military on Wednesday north of Basrah (590 km south of Baghdad), police said. The interpreter, who was kidnapped on Tuesday night, was shot several times in the head. BASRAH – Police said they freed five girls who were kidnapped earlier at the Hussein district of western Basrah on Wednesday.
BASRAH – The director of the Iraqi Red Crescent in Basrah said unknown gunmen attacked his home with small arms fire without casualties on Tuesday night. Sabah Khraibit said he had repeatedly received death threats since he took the position five months ago by gunmen related to the former Iraqi Red Crescent director and that he filed several complaints with no actions taken by authorities.
ZUBAIR – Gunmen hijacked 24 imported vehicles near Zubair south west of Basrah after they entered from Kuwait on Wednesday morning, police said. Police later retrieved several vehicles in a raid on the Qibla district.
ABU AL-KHASIB – Customs police clashed with gunmen smuggling illegal vehicles at Abu Al-Khasib (20 km south east of Basrah) on Wednesday morning, a security source said. A policeman was killed in the fighting.
FAW – Police said it detained 12 suspected members of a Shi’ite militant group called Jund Al-Samaa’ during a raid near Faw (100 km south east of Basrah) on Tuesday night.
