BAGHDAD – Police found the bodies of 29 people shot execution style in different parts of the capital on Sunday, police said. Eighteen bodies were found in the Karkh sector of western Baghdad (six in Saidiya, five in Amil, four bodies in Bayya’, two in Qadisiya, and one in Dora), and 11 were found in the Rusafa sector of eastern Baghdad (three in Adhamiya, three in Sulaikh, two in Sha’ab, two in Jisr Diyala, and one in Shama’iya), according to Reuters and VOI.
BAGHDAD – Gunmen broke into a home in the Ghazaliya district of western Baghdad and killed four people from one family on Sunday afternoon, police told VOI. The victims were strangulated, according to the police. In the nearby Jam’ia district, gunmen broke into a home and killed one person and wounded two of his sons, according to VOI.
BAGHDAD - Six people were killed and seven wounded in a car bomb explosion in Karrada in central Baghdad on Sunday, police said, according to Reuters and VOI.
BAGHDAD – Two people were killed and five wounded in a car bomb explosion near the Hamra Hotel in Jadiriya at almost the same timing of the Karrada explosion, police said, according to Reuters and VOI.
BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb killed three civilians and wounded five others at the Shorja commercial district in central Baghdad on Sunday, police said, according to Reuters and VOI.
BAGHDAD – Gunmen killed Colonel Abdul Karim Hamid, head of the Facilities Protection Service in the Electricity Ministry, and two of his bodyguards in northern Baghdad’s Sulaikh district on Sunday morning, police told VOI.
BAGHDAD – Gunmen killed Colonel Jawad Kadhim Al-Sa’idi, an Iraqi Army general, when he was passing through the Qahira district of northern Baghdad on Sunday, police told VOI.
BAGHDAD - The bodies of an Iraqi couple employed by the U.S. embassy in Baghdad who were kidnapped in May were found, a U.S. official said on Sunday, according to Reuters.
BAGHDAD – Iraqi soldiers foiled an attempted suicide car bombing near the Dora bridge in southern Baghdad on Sunday, according to WNA. The suspected bomber was killed and the car detonated remotely.
BAGHDAD – Iraqi soldiers killed 6 suspected militants and detained 11 others, including a suspected Al-Qaeda leader in Tikrit, on the Baghdad-Samarra road, a security source told WNA.
BAGHDAD - One U.S. soldier was killed and three wounded on Sunday by a suicide car bomb near their patrol west of the Iraqi capital, the military said.
BAGHDAD - U.S. forces detained ten suspected militants during raids in western Baghdad, the military said.
BUHRIZ – Five people were killed and 27 others wounded in a mortar attack on the predominately Sunni town of Buhriz south east of Ba’quba (57 km north east of Baghdad) on Sunday afternoon, police told VOI.
BAQUBA – Police detained two suspected militants and defused two roadside bombs in the Sada area north of Ba’quba on Sunday, police told WNA. Four vehicles and three weapon caches were confiscated in the Gatoun area west of Ba’quba, the source said.
KHALIS – Two people from one family were killed and seven others wounded in a mortar attack on Khalis north of Baghdad on Sunday, police said, according to McClatchy newspapers.
HASWA - A suicide truck bomber killed 23 new Iraqi army recruits and wounded 27 others near the Haswa village east of Fallujah (40 km west of Baghdad), police and army sources said, according to Reuters and VOI.
KIRKUK - Police found two bodies bearing signs of torture and gunshot wounds in the Domiz area north of Kirkuk (250 km north of Baghdad) on Sunday, police said, according to Reuters.
KIRKUK – Gunmen staged an attack on the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan headquarters in Kirkuk and clashed with guards on Sunday morning, police told VOI. One gunman was killed in the attack. WNA reported that the attack targeted a patrol of Kurdish Asayish intelligence operatives in the Urouba district of Kirkuk.
TIKRIT - One U.S. soldier was killed by a roadside bomb near his vehicle in Salahuddin province in northern Iraq on Saturday, the military said.
TIKRIT - Iraqi soldiers and police discovered a bomb-making factory and about 10,000 pounds of ammonia nitrate near the northern city of Mosul on Saturday, the U.S. military said.
MOSUL – Gunmen killed two Ninewa governorate council members in west Mosul on Sunday, police told VOI. The two members, Ibrahim Hamdi and Khalaf Jazza’ were in the 17 Tammuz district when gunmen opened fire and killed them, police said.
MOSUL – Five civilians were wounded in a roadside bomb explosion targeting a U.S. military patrol west of Mosul on Sunday, an Iraqi army spokesman told VOI.
TALKAIF – A policeman was killed and another wounded when a roadside bomb hidden in his car exploded in the predominately Christian town of Talkaif (12 km north of Mosul) on Sunday, police told VOI. It was the third attack of its kind this week in the relatively secure town, which is protected by Kurdish Peshmerga forces.
HAJJ UMRAN – The Iranian military fired several artillery rounds at the Hajj Umran area inside the Iraqi border on Sunday morning, targeting suspected PJAK guerilla positions, a Kurdish security source said.
TAJI - Iraqi soldiers detained five militants in operations near Kirkuk on Thursday, the U.S. military said.
MISHAHDA – Interior Ministry commandos arrested an Islamic Army operative in Mishahda north of Baghdad on Sunday, a security source told WNA. The detainee, Rafid Al-Shiblawi, was suspected of kidnapping and killing civilians on the Baghdad-Samarra road, the source said.
SAMARRA – Locals alleged that U.S. troops shot and killed two elderly men who were sitting outside near their homes during a raid in the Sikak district of Samarra on Saturday evening, according to VOI. The incident could not be confirmed independently. Tensions were high in Samarra as rumors circulated through mosques about Shi’ite militiamen dressed as security forces entering the Sunni majority town, according to VOI.
HADITHA – A roadside bomb explosion targeting a U.S. military patrol destroyed a Humvee vehicle in the village of Barawana near Haditha (170 km west of Ramadi) on Sunday, eyewitnesses told VOI. The U.S. military did not comment on the attack.
ISKANDARIYA – Three people were wounded in a mortar attack on Iskandariya south of Baghdad on Sunday, police told WNA.
JIBALA – Two people were wounded when a mortar shell hit the Ajrash are in the town of Jibala south of Baghdad on Sunday, police told WNA.
HASWA – Several mortar shells hit the Adday district of Haswa south of Baghdad on Sunday without casualties, police told WNA.
HILLA - A suicide car bomber and three accomplices were killed when their bomb detonated prematurely in this southern Shi'ite city, police said, according to Reuters. The car's driver was believed to be foreign.
KUT – Eyewitnesses said the U.S. military base in Kut was attacked with mortar shells on dawn Sunday with no news of casualties, according to VOI. The U.S. military did not comment on the attack.
DIWANIYA – Police said six roadside bombs exploded when U.S. troops entered the Sadr district of Diwaniya on dawn Sunday, damaging two Humvee vehicles, according to WNA.
DIWANIYA – An Iraqi soldier was wounded by a sniper’s bullet in the Iskan district of Diwaniya on Sunday, an Iraqi army spokesman told WNA.
SAMAWA – One person was killed and six wounded when sporadic clashes broke out again on Saturday night between Mahdi Army militiamen and Iraqi security forces in several parts of Samawa (280 km south of Baghdad) following a brief truce, medical sources told VOI.
SAMAWA - A mortar killed one woman and two children in the southern Iraqi city of Samawa, (270 km south of Baghdad) police said, according to Reuters.
BASRAH - A British soldier died on Sunday from wounds received during a security operation in the southern city of Basra the day before, a British military spokesman said on Sunday, according to Reuters. Two British soldiers had been killed on Saturday in two separate incidents, the military said. The soldier’s death brings the number of British casualties in Iraq since March 2003 to 159.
BASRAH - A suspected Al-Qaeda militant was detained in Basra with canisters of chloride, security officials said, according to Reuters.
