BAGHDAD - A car bomb exploded in the Harthiya district of western Baghdad, killing one person and wounding three on Monday afternoon, police said, according to Reuters and VOI. The car was parked on the main Kindi Street in Harthiya, which is near the fortified Green Zone, and the explosion caused damages to commercial stores in the area.
BAGHDAD - Two roadside bombs killed five people and wounded 24 when they exploded minutes apart near the Nahdha bus terminal in central Baghdad on Monday morning, police said, according to Reuters and WNA.
BAGHDAD – Three civilians were killed and a fourth wounded when U.S. troops opened fire to clear traffic on the Diyala bridge south east of Baghdad on Monday morning, police told VOI. The U.S. military did not comment on the incident.
BAGHDAD – A civilian was killed and seven others wounded in a car bomb explosion in the Karrada district on Monday afternoon, police told VOI.
BAGHDAD - A civilian was killed and four others wounded by a roadside bomb explosion in Karrada on Monday, police said, according to Reuters and VOI. The two attacks in Karrada, which is heavily protected by Shi’ite Badr Brigade militiamen, came one day after two car bombs exploded in the same district.
BAGHDAD - Two policemen and two soldiers were killed during clashes with militants in the Adhamiya district of northern Baghdad on Monday morning, police and eyewitnesses said, according to Reuters.
BAGHDAD – Three policemen were killed and a fourth wounded when militants ambushed their patrol near the Nidaa’ mosque in the Qahira district of Baghdad, police said.
BAGHDAD – An Iraqi soldier was killed and four others wounded when a suicide car bomber attacked their checkpoint in the Mechanic district of Dora in southern Baghdad on Monday afternoon, according to WNA.
BAGHDAD – Police found the body of General Tariq Abd Lafta, former traffic police director before 2003, in the Dora district of southern Baghdad on Monday, according to WNA. The victim had been abducted a few days ago.
BAGHDAD – Eyewitnesses said U.S. troops raided the house of Sadrist preacher Muhannad Al-Musawi and detained two of his family members in the Risala district of southern Baghdad on dawn Monday, according to WNA.
BAGHDAD – A Baghdad Operations Command statement said 44 suspected militants were detained during security operations in different parts of the capital over the last 24 hours. The statement said Iraqi troops also defused three roadside bombs and freed two people from their kidnappers. An officer was killed and eight soldiers wounded in the operations, the statement said.
MADAIN – The bodies of 12 people who worked for the Baghdad Pepsi factory in Za’faraniya were found near the Tuwaitha area in Mada’in south east of Baghdad, according to an Association of Muslim Scholars in Iraq statement. The victims were among 17 people detained yesterday by Interior Ministry commandos at a checkpoint in the Wardiya area of Mada’in, according to eyewitnesses. A police source confirmed the bodies were found but said the workers were abducted by militiamen manning a fake checkpoint.
BALAD - A roadside bomb explosion killed nine Iraqi soldiers and wounded 30 others when it targeted an Iraqi Army convoy in the Sayyid Gharib area south of Balad (80 km north of Baghdad), police said, according to Reuters and VOI.
MUQDADIYA – A joint U.S.-Iraqi military force killed 15 suspected Al-Qaeda in Iraq militants and detained eight others during operations in Muqdadiya (100 km north east of Baghdad) on Monday, an official Iraqi Army source in Ba’quba told VOI.
MUQDADIYA – Gunmen killed a criminal investigations judge in central Muqdadiya on Monday, police said, according to VOI. Gunmen in three vehicles opened fire on Judge Haqqi Isma’il’s car in the Mu’alimeen district of Muqdadiya, killing him immediately, the source said.
MUQDADIYA – Two children were wounded in a mortar attack on the Askari district of Muqdadiya on Monday, police said.
MUQDADIYA – Five policemen were wounded when militants attacked the home of Muqdadiya mayor on Sunday night, according to WNA.
WAJIHIYA – Two policemen were wounded when militants attacked a police station in Wajihiya south of Muqdadiya on Sunday night, police said, according to WNA.
SA’DIYA – Police found the bodies of two Facilities Protection Service members near the Marjana village of Sa’diya north east of Baghdad on Monday, police told WNA.
SA’DIYA – Two civilians were wounded when militants attacked a checkpoint in Sa’diya.
SA’DIYA – An unspecified number of civilians were killed and wounded when a suicide car bomber attacked a funeral procession of Fayli (Shi’ite) Kurds in the Zarghosh village near Sa’diya on Monday, according to WNA. Militants also attacked and burned four houses in the village without casualties, police said earlier. The car bomb attack against the remote village was the second in three days.
KHANAQIN – The Kurdish Asayish intelligence commander in Khanaqin escaped an assassination attempt with a roadside bomb in Khanaqin north east of Baghdad near the Iranian border, according to WNA.
KIRKUK – Two members of the Kurdish Asayish security service were wounded in a roadside bomb explosion targeting their patrol in the Urouba district of Kirkuk (250 km north of Baghdad) on Monday, a security source told VOI.
KIRKUK - Police found the body of one man with torture marks in the northern city of Kirkuk on Sunday, police said.
KIRKUK – Joint U.S.-Iraqi troops detained eight suspected militants during a raid in the Khadhraa’ and Tis’een districts of Kirkuk on Monday, a Kirkuk police source told VOI.
MOSUL – Two civilians were killed and eight others wounded when a U.S. military helicopter attacked the Majmu’a Al-Thaqafiya area in Mosul on Sunday night, Colonel Abdul Karim Al-Jubouri, of the Ninewa Police Operations Room, told Eye Iraq Media today. The U.S. military did not comment on the incident.
MOSUL – Gunmen killed Najlaa’ Mahmoud Hussein, a Ninewa Health Directorate employee, near the Medicine College in Mosul on Monday, according to WNA.
SINJAR – The Iraqi Army said it detained the local emir of Al-Qaeda in Iraq in the town of Sinjar west of Mosul on Monday, according to WNA.
RABI’AH – Two policemen were wounded during clashes with suspected militants in the Rudaina village near Rabi’ah (130 km west of Mosul near the Iraqi-Syrian border) on Monday, a local official told VOI. One gunman was killed in the raid and two others detained, the source said.
ERBIL – Kurdish authorities arrested four people accused of carrying out a suicide attack against the Kurdish Interior Ministry building in Erbil last May, Masrur Barzani, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Asayish security in the Kurdish autonomous region, and son of KDP leader Masoud Barzani, told the press on Monday. The suspects, three Kurds and an Arab, were members of the Islamic State of Iraq militant group, Barzani said.
GARMA – About 20 militants broke into four houses, cleared them from their occupants and detonated them without casualties in the town of Garma north west of Baghdad on Sunday night, Eye Iraq Media reported. The houses belonged to new police recruits. About 500 locals had volunteered to form a local police force to improve security in Garma last week, and Sheikh Mishhan Abbas, leader of the Jumaila tribe, opened his house to be used as a police station.
MUSSAYAB – U.S. troops detained several people during raids on the Utaifiya area near Mussayab south of Baghdad on Sunday night following a Katyusha rocket attack targeting U.S. forces in the area, Nahrain reported. The U.S. military did not comment on the incident.
NAJAF – The director of a human rights organization – Ali Al-Shaibani – escaped an assassination attempt when unknown gunmen in a vehicle opened fire against his motorcade in the Ghiri district of Najaf on Monday afternoon, a security source told VOI. His driver was killed and two of his bodyguards were wounded in the attack, the source added. Ali Al-Shaibani, a lawyer, is the head of the Najaf Center for Human Rights and Democracy, which was founded in February 2004.
NAJAF – Gunmen broke into the house of an Iraqi interpreter who worked for the U.S. military and killed him at the Qadisiya district of Najaf on Saturday night, a security source told VOI today. Ali Al-Yassiri worked at Camp Duke (20 km northwest of Najaf).
NAJAF – Police detained three criminals suspected of kidnapping and raping a six-year-old girl in the Haideriya area of Najaf, a governorate media official told WNA today.
RUMAITHA – Gunmen attacked the home of Abdul Rahim Mahmoud Al-Khawwam, head of the sewers department in Rumaitha, on dawn Monday, according to Nahrain. The attack was thought to be carried out by Mahdi Army militiamen since Abdul Rahim Al-Khawwam is related to Colonel Ali Mutashar Al-Khawwam (SIIC), criminal intelligence director in Samawa, accused by Sadrists of being behind the campaign against them in Samawa over the last few days. A Mahdi Army source had said they are holding 10 members of the criminal intelligence force as hostages until Sadrist detainees in Samawa are freed.
MIJAR AL-KABIR – Mayan governorate authorities said British jet fighters attacked a vehicle belonging to an Islamic Movement in Iraq official in Mijar Al-Kabir south of Amara on Monday, killing three people, according to Radio Sawa and WNA.
NASIRIYA – At least three people were wounded in several roadside bomb explosions targeting the homes of emergency police force members in Nasiriya on Monday, Nahrain and Nasiriya News Network reported. Police defused several bombs planted in different parts of the southern city, which recently witnessed clashes between Mahdi Army militiamen and local security forces dominated by rival SIIC.
BASRAH – Police arrested 10 illegal weapon dealers during a raid at the 5 Mile market in central Basrah (590 km south of Baghdad) on Monday morning, a Basrah security source told VOI. The source also said police found and defused a Katyusha rocket launcher in the Abu Sikheer area (15 km north of Basrah).
BASRAH – The Joint Coordination Center in the Hakimiya district of Basrah was attacked with a rocket-propelled grenade on Monday morning without casualties, police said.
