BAGHDAD - The U.S. military said it killed 30 suspected militants and detained 12 others during raids in Baghdad's Shi'ite slum of Sadr City on Wednesday. Hospital sources said 13 civilians were killed while police put the toll at 11, including women and children. A media spokesman for the Martyr Sadr Bureau in Baghdad said nine civilians were killed and six wounded during a raid in the Tariq (Tenek) district north east of Sadr City. Another Sadrist source said the raid targeted Amer Al-Husseini, the head of the social committee of the Martyr Sadr Bureau, and two of his brothers, all of who were detained by U.S. troops.

BAGHDAD – Police found 11 bodies shot execution style in different parts of the capital on Wednesday, police said (three in Amil, two in Dora, two in I’lam, two in Shu’la, one in Saidiya, and one in Sa’doun Street).

BAGHDAD – Gunmen opened random fire killing a civilian and wounding two others in the Dora district of Baghdad on Wednesday, police said.

BAGHDAD – Eight civilians were wounded in mortar attacks on the Sahha and Mu’alimeen districts of Dora on Wednesday, police said. A mortar attack on the predominately Shi’ite Abu Dshir area killed one civilian and wounded two others.

BAGHDAD – A civilian was killed and two wounded in a mortar attack on the Bayya’ district of southern Baghdad on Wednesday morning.

BAGHDAD – Two women were wounded when gunmen attacked the motorcade of the minister of labor and social affairs in Baghdad on Wednesday morning, according to McClatchy newspapers.

BAGHDAD – Three soldiers were wounded in a roadside bomb attack on their patrol in the Mansour district of western Baghdad on Wednesday, according to McClatchy newspapers.

BAGHDAD - A U.S. air strike killed one suspected Mahdi Army militiaman in Baghdad's southern district of Amil, the U.S. military said. Five others were detained.

BAGHDAD – A U.S. soldier was killed and four wounded in a roadside bomb attack on their patrol in western Baghdad on Tuesday, the U.S. military said today. Another U.S. soldier died from wounds received during combat operations in the western Anbar governorate on Monday, the military said.

MOSUL – The Iraqi Army said it detained 13 Islamic State of Iraq militants in two different raids and defused a roadside bomb in Mosul on Wednesday, according to VOI.

KIRKUK - A roadside bomb killed one policeman and wounded six others when it exploded near their patrol car in central Kirkuk (250 km north of Baghdad) on Wednesday morning, police said, according to Reuters and VOI.

KIRKUK - Gunmen killed one person and wounded another when they opened fire against a group of people in the Urouba district of Kirkuk on Wednesday, police said, according to Reuters.

KIRKUK - Police said they found the body of a person shot and tortured near the Technical Institute in the Wahid Huzairan district of Kirkuk on Wednesday, according to Reuters and VOI.

KIRKUK – Four policemen were wounded in a car bomb explosion targeting their patrol near the industrial district of southern Kirkuk on Wednesday afternoon, police said, according to VOI.

HAWIJA - A roadside bomb killed one person and wounded two others near a fuel station in the town of Hawija (60 km southwest of Kirkuk), police said, according to Reuters and VOI. The blast severely damaged the fuel station.

HAWIJA – A child was killed and four of his family members wounded when a mortar shell hit their house in Hawija on Wednesday evening, police said, according to VOI and WNA.

HAWIJA – A joint U.S.-Iraqi force detained 20 suspected militants during raids in Hawija and Abbassi on Wednesday, police said.

UDHAIM – Gunmen kidnapped the goalkeeper of the Kirkuk football team, Bahaa’ Abdul Karim Darwish, near Udhaim (100 km north of Baghdad) while he was returning to Kirkuk from Baghdad on Wednesday, a spokesman for the team said, according to VOI.

SAMARRA - Mortar rounds killed seven people and wounded two in a residential area of Samarra north of Baghdad on Wednesday, police said, according to Reuters and WNA.

YETHRIB – Militants used a truck rigged with explosives to blow up a vital bridge over the Ishaqi water canal between Yethrib and Balad (90 km north of Baghdad) on dawn Wednesday, police said, according to VOI and WNA.

DUJAIL – Gunmen killed a police officer in a drive-by shooting in the predominately Shi’ite town of Dujail (65 km north of Baghdad) on Wednesday, police said.

KHALIS – Gunmen killed four policemen and kidnapped a police colonel when they attacked their patrol in the Salam area of Khalis north of Baghdad on Wednesday, according to PUK Media.

KHALIS – Medical sources in Khalis said the city’s hospital received the bodies of eight civilians and seven others who were wounded in mortar attacks on Wednesday, according to PUK Media and WNA.

HIBHIB – A policeman was wounded when gunmen attacked his patrol in the town of Hibhib north of Baghdad on Wednesday, according to PUK Media.

KHAN BANI SAAD – Gunmen wounded two civilians in an attack near the police directorate of Khan Bani Sa’ad on Wednesday afternoon, according to PUK Media. Two other civilians were wounded in a mortar attack on the Asri area, according to WNA.

BAQUBA – Four civilians were killed and four other wounded from one family when gunmen broke into their house in the Gatoun area west of Ba’quba on Wednesday morning, according to PUK Media and WNA. Eyewitnesses said the gunmen were dressed in the uniforms provided for Sunni insurgents fighting Al-Qaeda in Iraq militants. The family was a displaced family that had returned from Karbala after it was told the area had been cleared from insurgent groups.

BAQUBA – Five civilians were killed and ten wounded in a suicide car bombing that targeted a barber’s shop in the Gatoun area of Ba’quba on Wednesday, according to Eye Iraq Media.

BAQUBA – A policeman was wounded when he was attacked by gunmen in Ba’quba on Wednesday, according to PUK Media.

BALADRUZ – Gunmen killed a policeman in the town of Baladruz south east of Ba’quba on Wednesday, police said.

MUQDADIYA – Gunmen apprehended a vehicle carrying the salaries of employees of the Muqdadiya Health Directorate and fled with 109 million Dinars ($85,000) and one of the employees, police said.

MANDALI – Four Iraqi soldiers were wounded in a mortar attack targeting their border post north of Mandali near the Iraqi-Iranian border on Tuesday, the Iraqi Army said, according to VOI and PUK Media.

MADAIN – Militants staged an attack on an Interior Ministry commandos’ base in the Mada’in suburb south east of Baghdad and clashed with police for several hours, killing and wounding an unspecified number of policemen on Wednesday, according to WNA.

WAHDA – Gunmen killed a civilian and kidnapped two others who were among Shi’ite pilgrims heading to Baghdad near the suburb of Wahda south east of Baghdad on Wednesday morning, police said, according to VOI. Four other pilgrims were abducted in the same area on Tuesday.

MAHAWIL - Gunmen killed a person in a drive-by shooting in the town of Mahawil (75 km south of Baghdad) on Wednesday, police said, according to Reuters.

JURF AL-SAKHAR - Gunmen killed one civilian in Jurf Al-Sakhar, 85 km south of Baghdad) on Wednesday, police said, according to Reuters.

JIBALA – The Iraqi Army said it detained 13 suspected militants during raids in the Ajrash area of Jibala (50 km north east of Hilla) on Wednesday, according to VOI.

KARBALA – Karbala Police Commander Colonel Ra’ed Shakir Jawdat said police captured four Al-Qaeda in Iraq militants in a raid north of Karbala on Tuesday.

NAJAF - Former deputy governor of Najaf Talal Bilal escaped an assassination attempt that killed one of his bodyguards and wounded another when masked gunmen opened fire on his motorcade between Kufa and Najaf (160 km south of Baghdad) on Wednesday morning, police said, according to Reuters and VOI.

NAJAF – Two policemen were killed in a drive-by shooting at the Thawrat Al-Ishreen Square near the old city section of Najaf on Wednesday, police said, according to VOI. The two policemen were members of a special force assigned to protect the old city, which hosts the Imam Ali shrine and the offices of the four Shi’ite grand ayatollahs.

KUFA- Two gunmen on a motorbike killed a lawyer outside his home in the Maysan district of Kufa (10 km east of Najaf) on Wednesday, police said, according to Reuters and VOI. The victim, Emad Dawsh, was a well-known lawyer in Kufa.

DIWANIYA – Three civilians were wounded in a roadside bomb explosion targeting a U.S. military patrol in central Diwaniya on Wednesday afternoon, according to WNA. Another roadside bomb exploded near a U.S. patrol in Diwaniya on Tuesday night, damaging a Hummer vehicle.

NASIRIYA – Two civilians were wounded during clashes between police and unknown gunmen in Nasiriya on Wednesday, according to Nasiriya News Network. Two mortar shells hit the Nasiriya power station without damages and another shell hit a celebration organized by the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council (SIIC) in the city’s center. Six roadside bombs exploded in different parts of the southern city without casualties, police said.

BASRAH - A British soldier was killed and an unspecified number wounded by small arms fire when their patrol was attacked in the Garmat Ali area of Basrah on Tuesday night, Britain's Defense Ministry said. A British military spokesman said British troops responded to the attack and killed 10 suspected militants.

BASRAH – Eyewitnesses said the southern city witnessed intensive rocket and mortar attacks targeting British military bases since Tuesday night, according to WNA. A British military spokesman said there were no casualties from the attacks.
