BAGHDAD - A civilian was killed and three injured in a mortar attack on the Zayouna district near Maysaloun Square in eastern Baghdad on Monday afternoon, according to McClatchy newspapers.
BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb went off near a U.S. military patrol at the Army Canal highway in eastern Baghdad on Monday afternoon. The U.S. military did not comment on the attack.

BAGHDAD - U.S. troops were attacked with a roadside bomb and small arms fire in the Ubaidi district east of Sadr City on Monday afternoon, the military said. Iraqi officials said four people were killed and 10 wounded in the explosion and the shootout. The U.S. military denied any civilians were killed.
BAGHDAD - Three mortar shells struck the Qadisiya compound inside the fortified Green Zone on Monday morning without casualties, Iraqi police said. Iraqi and U.S. authorities did not comment on the attack.
BAGHDAD - Three U.S. soldiers were killed and a fourth injured in a roadside bomb attack on their vehicle in the Ninewa governorate of northern Iraq on Monday, the U.S. military said today. Another U.S. soldier was klled in combat in western Baghdad on Monday, the military said.
SHIRQAT - Gunmen killed a 15-year-old girl and kidnapped her father after they broke into their house in the town of Shirqat south of Mosul on Sunday night, police said.
ZAB - Gunmen assassinated a local clan leader of the Sunni Arab Jubour tribe and wounded his brother and daughter in the Shibla village near Zab (45 km west of Kirkuk) on dawn Monday, police said, according to VOI. The victim, Sheikh Muhsin Abdullah Hassan Al-Sibeel, was the leader of the ?Al-Bu Ghuzat clan, which inhabits the Lesser Zab tributary area west of Kirkuk.
KIRKUK - Police found two bodies rigged with explosives on the main Kirkuk-Tikrit road (45 km south west of Kirkuk) on Monday, police said, according to VOI. The bodies belonged to two men who were abducted earlier.
KIRKUK - Two civilians were wounded in a roadside bomb explosion near the Ghirnata bridge in central Kirkuk on Sunday night, police said. Another civilian was wounded when a mortar shell hit his home in central Kirkuk.
KIRKUK - Gunmen kidnapped a truck driver near the Laylan village south of Kirkuk on Monday, according to McClatchy newspapers.
TIKRIT - Gunmen kidnapped the administrator of the Dijlah area, Sha'lan Ali Karim, at a fake checkpoint 25 km south of Tikrit on Monday, police said, according to VOI.
YETHRIB - Gunmen blew up the house of Colonel Issam Al-Azzawi, head of the Salah Al-Din Police Academy, in the town of Yethrib east of Balad on Monday. The house was empty when it was detonated, police said.
NAFT KHANA - Five policemen, including the head of police of the town of Naft Khana, were killed and four others wounded in a roadside bomb attack targeting their patrol east of the town near the Iranian border on Sunday night, police said, according to VOI. The head of the police, Lieutenant Fatih Sheikh Langari was a former Peshmerga fighter for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, the source said.
GARMA - Gunmen assassinated Sheikh Sadda' Al-Siraih, a leader of the Al-Bu Khalifa clan of the Dulaim tribe, in front of his house in the town of Garma (15 km north east of Fallujah) on Sunday night, police said. Sheikh Al-Siraih had contributed to opening a police station in the troubled town a month ago along with the leader of the Jumaila tribe, who had also been targeted by insurgents several times as well as many policemen who were recruited for the local police force.
FALLUJAH - Fallujah police said they detained nine suspected Al-Qaeda in Iraq militants in the Sajar area north of Fallujah in a joint operation with Garma police on Monday, according to VOI.
SUWAIRA - Gunmen killed a policeman in a drive-by shooting in the town of Suwaira south east of Baghdad on Monday, police said, according to VOI.
KARBALA - The police commander in Karbala said police detained an the Al-Qaeda in Iraq leader of the Karbala area at a checkpoint while he was attempting to enter the holy city on Monday.
HILLA - A roadside bomb exploded outside the house of a bodyguard of the Babel police commander in Hilla without casualties on Monday, according to WNA.
HILLA - Eyewitnesses said U.S. troops opened fire and killed a civilian - Hussein Rabi' Falih - driving his vehicle in 40th Street in Hilla on Monday morning, according to WNA.
MIDHATIYA - Police found the bodies of a man and a woman in two separate locations around Midhatiya (35 km south of Hilla) on Monday, police said, according to VOI.
MIDHATIYA - An Iraqi soldier was killed by unknown gunmen when he was leaving his house in Midhatiya on Monday, police said, according to WNA.
KUFA - A joint U.S.-Iraqi force detained Emad Al-Hasnawi, a local Sadrist leader, during a raid on his home in the Maysan district of Kufa (13 km north east of Najaf) on dawn Monday, police said. U.S. troops had detained Sheikh Fu'ad Al-Tarfi, an aide to Muqtada Al-Sadr, on dawn Sunday in the same district, according to VOI.
NAJAF - A roadside bomb exploded outside the house of Najaf governorate spokesman Ahmed Di'aibil in the Jam'ia district of Najaf on Monday without casualties, Di'aibil told the press, according to VOI. It was the second attack on his residence since June. Dia'ibil is a member of the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council.
NASIRIYA - Five roadside bombs exploded in the southern city of Nasiriya on Monday targeting residences of Iraqi army and police officers, a checkpoint and the Dhi Qar Police Directorate, police said, according to WNA and Nasiriya News Network. One of the explosions were followed by clashes between police and suspected Mahdi Army militiamen, while a rocket hit the Dhi Qar governorate building without casualties. Sporadic bombings and clashes have been raging in Nasiriya for weeks as tensions rise between the Sadrist Movement and the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council, which controls the governorate and local police force.
BASRAH - Gunmen in police uniforms stormed into a local non-governmental organization that deals with the affairs of Iraqis who were deported from Kuwait and kidnapped the manager, Hassan Al-Zubaidi, in downtown Basrah on Monday, eyewitnesses said, according to WNA and VOI. The Basrah Police Directorate denied ordering an arrest.
BASRAH - Gunmen in police uniforms broke into the house of Basrah Civil Defense commander Colonel Ra'ad Salman Majid in the Kut Al-Hajjaj area of central Basrah on dawn Monday and stole his vehicle and weapons, police said. The commander was not in his house at the time.
BASRAH - The joint coordination center in the Hakimiya district of Basrah was attacked by small arms fire without casualties, police said, according to WNA. British troops at the center briefly clashed with the gunmen who fled after the attack, the source said.
BASRAH - All British military bases in Basrah were targeted by indirect rocket fire on Monday without casualties, a British military statement said today.
SAFWAN - A civilian was seriously wounded when a land mine exploded in a field near the border town of Safwan near the Kuwaiti border in southern Iraq on Monday, police said, according to WNA.
