Two more Iraqi provinces will be handed over to formal Iraqi security control over the next two weeks, according to remarks by an Iraqi Defense Ministry official.

“Measures are underway to prepare for the handover of the security file in Babil and Wasit provinces from the Multinational Forces over the coming two weeks, or at the beginning of October” ministry spokesman Muhammad al-'Askari told Aswat al-Iraq.

Not including Babil and Wasit, both located south of Baghdad, Iraqi forces now have received formal security control over 11 of Iraq’s 18 provinces.

The latest handover occurred in Anbar Province at the beginning of September.
