Joint US-Iraqi forces conducted an airborne raid on the town of Amiriyat al-Falluja, in Anbar Province, south of the city of Falluja, arresting an officer in the local traffic police.

Shakir al-Isawi, the head of the municipal council in Amiriyat al-Falluja told al-Malaf Press that Col. Ahmad Abdullah, of the Anbar Traffic Directorate, was detained by the joint forces in an airborne raid, the agency reports in Arabic.

Local officials had not been aware of the raid until after the forces appeared on the scene, al-Isawi said.

The reasons for the raid have not been announced, the local official added, alleging that the arrest occurred without any warrant issued in the Iraqi courts.

Al-Iraq News reports in Arabic that an anonymous source in the local council said that the raid occurred in the al-Ikha residential complex in the town, located about 15 miles south of the city of Falluja.
